Meet our volunteer coaches and steers. They are an incredible group of people with diverse skills, award winning accomplishments and international and national experience. They are very passionate about our sport and are dedicated to make our club the best it can be by providing teamwork, leadership and confidence. Several of our coaches/steers have participated in external racing training with the Quinte Heat in Belleville, Pickering Dragon Boat Club, Tampa Dragon Boat boot camp in Florida, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and on the water training through Ontario Sea Kayak’s “Women On Water” training camps. Competition Experience This adventuresome group has competed in International World competitions (National and Club Crew) in Toronto, Ontario - 2006, Penang, Malaysia - 2008, Macau, China – 2012, Ravenna, Italy – 2014, Kunming, China – 2017, Szeged, Hungary – 2018, Pattaya, Thailand – 2019, Sarasota, Florida, Australia and Berlin. This group has earned plentiful gold, silver and bronze medals… too many to count. Other Sport Participations This water sport loving group also participates in other water boating experiences: canoeing, kayaking, rowing, paddling an OC1, OC-2 or OC-6, motor boating, sailing, rowing a skiff and paddle boarding And they are engaged in other sport activities: camping, running Marathons, hiking, working out at the Brighton YMCA, water skiing, golfing, swimming, doing water aerobics, painting, sculpting or working in encaustic Volunteer Activities and Other Several of our paddlers, coaches and steers have given back to the Club by volunteering for Executive Board positions – 30 years in total. Other volunteer and community involvement include BARU, Belleville Relay for Life, Probus Presqu’ile, Brighton Garden Club, CARP, Chambers of Commerce, Census Enumeration, TD Friends of the Environment, Heart and Stroke, Canadian Cancer Society, HUGS etc…. Aside from training our dragon boat paddlers, our coaches and steers also coach other groups like:
