General Information

Check out the program descriptions below to learn about all the wonderful paddling activities offered by the Brighton Dragon Boat Club (BDBC). We have something for everyone - from those new to the sport to seasoned paddlers to those wanting the challenge of racing. With our talented coaches and steers, BDBC provides the perfect opportunity to increase physical activity, learn and improve paddling skills and make or renew friendships. And all this while enjoying the beauty and nature of Presqu'ile Bay. Setting sail from the Harbourview Marina Restaurant parking lot in Gosport, we've been making waves there since 2007!

Our Mission Statement

To inspire the residents of Brighton to improve and support their physical fitness, enhance their community connections and nurture their love of nature through dragon boat programs designed for all skill levels.

Recreational Program

Enjoy the fun and activity of paddling on the waters of beautiful Presqu’ile Bay. Our experienced coaches use a series of instructions and moderate exercises so new paddlers can learn the sport and seasoned paddlers can improve their paddling technique all while savouring the scenic views and wildlife. An added benefit is the opportunity to make new friends within the community.  In 2023, we  modified our program to offer more opportunities to paddle throughout the week  and added a greater variety of sessions within the program. See the separate tab for more info.

Competitive Program

Practices are designed to improve your individual paddling stroke, performance, and endurance. Some drills focus on setting up the stroke, catch, pull, exit and recovery while others focus on racing essentials - race starts, power ups, and finishes. Practices provide a full body workout - your legs are engaged as an anchor while your arm, shoulder and back muscles are activated as you pull the paddle through the water. The members practice two evenings a week under the guidance of an experienced coach.  See the separate tab for more info.

Our 2024 Coaches and Steerspersons

Meet our volunteer coaches and steers.  They are an incredible group of people with diverse skills, award winning accomplishments and international and national experienceSee the separate tab for more info.
